Ker je kratka pot od pridelka do uporabnika, pridelki vsebujejo ve\u010d vitaminov in mineralov, kot uvo\u017eeni. Posamezen pridelek tudi ni \u0161kropljen s fitofarmacevtskimi sredstvi, kar je bolj\u0161e za na\u0161e zdravje. Pridelki niso posebej pakirani v svojo embala\u017eo, ki bi po nepotrebnem onesna\u017eevala okolje. Pri izbiri lesa je najbolj\u0161i sibirski macesen, ki je zaradi svoje po\u010dasne rasti izredno odporen na vremenske vplive. Po notranji strani polepimo z <strong>za\u0161\u010ditno folijo<\/strong>. Na dno postavimo <strong>za\u0161\u010ditno mre\u017eo<\/strong> proti voluharjem, nad njo <strong>drobno grobo kamenje <\/strong>(3), saj to prepre\u010duje zaustavljanje vode. Nad kamenje postavimo <strong>veje <\/strong>(4), ki slu\u017eijo kot hranilo za dalj\u0161e obdobje. Postavimo jih vzdol\u017eno, da lahko zrak kro\u017ei. Sledi pas <strong>poko\u0161ene trave <\/strong>(5), saj je ta odli\u010dno gnojilo in pomaga pri zadr\u017eevanju vlage in prepre\u010duje izpiranja. Nato sledi ve\u010dji pas <strong>komposta <\/strong>(6,7), ki vsebuje mikroorganizme, ki pozimi pospe\u0161ujejo proces razkroja in ustvarjajo humus. Sledi plast <strong>kartona<\/strong> (8), ki je ob razpadanju dobra vaba za de\u017eevnike, hkrati tudi zadr\u017euje vlago, zato grede ne rabimo zalivati vsak dan. Na koncu damo <strong>rodovitno prst <\/strong>(9,10), ki prispeva k bolj\u0161emu uspevanju pridelkov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pomembno je, da za gredo izberemo lokacijo, ki bo izpostavljena soncu in bo dobro prezra\u010dena. Gredo postavimo spomladi. Organske materiale, kot so veje, listje, trava in kompost, dodajamo preko leta. Priporo\u010dljivo je, da humus dodamo nekaj tednov pred za\u010detkom rastne sezone, kar obi\u010dajno pomeni konec aprila ali v za\u010detku maja. Do naslednje pomladi se bo ta zemlja nekoliko posedla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spomladi na gredo posadimo in posejemo zelenjavo. Dr\u017eimo se pravila, da vi\u0161je rastline (npr. paradi\u017enik) sadimo na sredino grede, proti robu pa ni\u017eje. Tako vi\u0161ja zelenjava ne bo sen\u010dila ni\u017eje. Na gredah ustvarjamo me\u0161ane kulture, in sicer tako, da med seboj sadimo zelenjavo, ki sodi med ugodne sosede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katere rastline lahko gojimo skupaj in katere ne ter zakaj? (dobri in slabi sosedje)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dobri sosedje:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>paradi\u017enik in bazilika,<\/em> saj paradi\u017enik potrebuje podporo, bazilika pa je koristna za odganjanje \u0161kodljivcev in izbolj\u0161anje okusa paradi\u017enika,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>koren\u010dek in \u010debula<\/em>, saj se dobro dopolnjujeta v rasti,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>solata in \u0161pina\u010da<\/em>, ki jih navadno posadimo pod vi\u0161jimi rastlinami, da sta v senci,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>fi\u017eol in kumare<\/em>, saj se fi\u017eol lahko vzpenja po opori, medtem ko kumare plazijo po tleh, kar izkoristi prostor v vi\u0161ino in \u0161irino visoke grede.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Slabi sosedje:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>krompir in paradi\u017enik<\/em> spadata v isto dru\u017eino (<em>Solanaceae<\/em>), kar pomeni, da sta bolj nagnjena k istim boleznim in \u0161kodljivcem,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>fi\u017eol<\/em> zavira rast <em>\u010debule<\/em>, \u010debula pa lahko tudi vpliva na okus fi\u017eola z njeno aromo,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>kumare in krompir: <\/em>krompir zahteva veliko hranil in vode, kar lahko zmanj\u0161a razpolo\u017eljive vire za kumare,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>solata in korenje:<\/em> korenje lahko razvije veliko korenino, ki lahko tekmuje za prostor z rasto\u010do solato, kar lahko privede do manj\u0161ega pridelka pri obeh.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Visoke grede predstavljajo ustvarjalno re\u0161itev za vrtnarjenje na omejenem prostoru, ki omogo\u010da izjemno u\u010dinkovito rabo zemlje ter pove\u010duje samooskrbo s sve\u017eo in zdravo hrano. Visoke grede ne le omogo\u010dajo izkoristek vsakega centimetra prostora, ampak tudi zmanj\u0161ujejo negativne vplive na okolje. Z njihovo pomo\u010djo lahko pomagamo ohraniti biotsko raznovrstnost. Poleg tega nas spodbujajo k trajnostnemu na\u010dinu \u017eivljenja in pove\u010dujejo ozave\u0161\u010denost o pomenu lokalne samooskrbe. Because the distance between the crops and the user is short, the crops contain more vitamins and minerals than the transported ones. The crops are also not sprayed with phytopharmaceuticals, which is much better for our health. They aren&#8217;t wrapped in packaging that would unnecessarily contaminate the environment. The best wood to choose is the Siberian larch, which is\u2014thanks to its slow growth rate\u2014extremely resilient against bad weather conditions. We stick <strong>protective foil<\/strong> on the inside. On the bottom, we put <strong>protective mesh<\/strong> against voles, and <strong>small rough stones<\/strong> (3) on top because they don\u2019t let water pass through. Above them we put smaller and bigger <strong>twigs<\/strong> (4), which will serve as nutrients for a longer time period. We arrange them longitudinally for air circulation. Next, we put a layer of <strong>mown grass<\/strong> (5) on top of the twigs as it is a great fertiliser while also helping retain moisture and preventing leaching. Then comes a layer of <strong>compost<\/strong> (6,7), which contains microorganisms that escalate the process of decomposition in winter, followed by a layer of <strong>cardboard<\/strong> (8), which, when decomposing, is a good bait for earthworms and at the same time retains moisture, so the garden bed does not need to be watered every day. At last, we put a layer of <strong>fertile soil<\/strong> (9,10), which contributes to better crop growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to choose a sunny location and a well-ventilated one. We set up the raised garden bed in spring. We add organic materials, such as twigs, leaves, compost and grass, throughout the whole year. It is advised that we add humus some weeks before the growing season, which usually means at the end of April or at the beginning of May. The soil will slightly collapse until next spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During spring, we can plant and sow our vegetables. We should stick to the rule that we grow the taller plants (e.g. tomatoes) in the middle of the garden and the shorter ones on the sides. This way the shorter plants won\u2019t be in the shade because of the ones that grow higher. We can create vegetable diversity in garden beds by planting the veggies next to the appropriate neighbouring plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"845\" height=\"10\" src=\"\"><strong>Which vegetables should we plant next to each other and which ones should we avoid (good and bad neighbours)?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Good neighbours:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Tomato and basil,<\/em> because tomato needs support and basil is useful for repelling pests and enhances the tomato\u2019s flavour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carrot and onion<\/em>, because they encourage each other\u2019s growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Salad and spinach<\/em>, which are usually planted under higher plants to be in the shadow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Pole bean and cucumber<\/em>, because the bean can grow as a climbing vine on a trellis, while the cucumber can grow on the ground. This takes advantage of the space in a raised garden bed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bad neighbours:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Potato and tomato <\/em>belong to the same family (<em>Solanaceae<\/em>), which means that they are both inclined towards the same illnesses and pests.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Bean inhibits the growth of onion<\/em>; onion can also impact the taste of bean with its aroma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Cucumber and potato:<\/em> potato needs a lot of water and nutrients, which can cut off some of the cucumber\u2019s supply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Salad and carrot: <\/em>carrot can develop a big root, limiting salad\u2019s space, which can lead to smaller yields of both vegetables.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Raised garden beds can be a creative solution for gardening in a limited and smaller space, which can enable very efficient soil usage and lead to better self-sustainability through fresh and healthy food. Not only do they enable the utilisation of the area\u2019s every centimetre, they also help the individual to be more ecologically aware. With their help we can assist in sustaining biodiversity. They also encourage us to live a sustainable lifestyle and spread awareness about the meaning of local self-sustainability.
